I think Shakespeare wrote quickly with a quill and ink and parchment. His copiers must have possessed considerable penmanship skills as well. I think he wrote as he vocally created, playing all the parts while writing, making the sense of every word and line clear with sound.

So if you know a speech REALLY well; you can create a different pathway through it, just by letting the text create different thoughts within you. Don’t do it in the middle of a run, the director will scream at you; do it in rehearsal when you know the text EXACTLY, then see what happens. One can’t really play until one knows the words exactly and confidently. Only then can one seem to invent them. Speaking, learning and inventing are all interconnected. I think we need to practice speaking more!
